Private John Stephen Thrumble proudly served in 7 Platoon, B Company, Royal Anglian Regiment. A
section GPMG gunner and also the team medic.

John died at the tender age of twenty-one in a so-called friendly fire incident, along side his
close friends Private Robert Foster and Private Aaron McClure.
On 23rd August 2007 Johns platoon was on patrol near kajaki in Afghanistan, when they came under
attack by Taliban

Air support was requested from the US F15 aircraft American aircraft where the bomb dropped by the
American plane hit the compound where the whole section were located. John, Robert and Aaron were
pronounced dead at the scene, two soldiers were seriously injured.

John had a younger brother (Luke) and a foster brother (semirjan) and girlfriend (Gemma)
John was the most amazing son a mother could have he was a loving and caring person, thoughtful
giving and kind, unbearably funny at times. He had so much love to give.
He could always be relied upon to raise moral of those around him.

John Knew more than most how important freedom was. For many years was a big brother to many young
foster children , some coming from places such as Kosovo and Afghanistan?

John loved his Bling!! YUK!! But how proudly I place them along side your medals.

(Music was his passion)
John rarely spent time on his own but when he did, he enjoyed creating tunes and sounds on his
keyboard playing for hours on end that brought me so much pleasure. Oh John! How I miss those
magical sounds you made just for me, I sit with a heavy heart that I wont hear those sounds again.

Through Johns death we have got to know a number of soldiers that served along side John that have
graciously confirm to us, that Johns dreams weren’t just dreams they were going to happen, his
future was in the palm of his hands.

John your passing has left a huge void in the family, an unbearable loss to Pearl (Mum) and Steve
(Dad), Luke his brother, Semirjan foster brother, Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his good
friends all miss him very much.

As you once said to me. ‘Embrace the memories’. I promise you John we will learn to embrace the
memories, you have left behind so many.

Until we meet again our darling boy may you rest in peace all our love always?

Remembered

Hi John, You maybe a million miles away, I may not be able to hold your hand or give you a cuddle or even lend you a tenner to go for a pint with Stu. In my heart you will always be and in my thoughts. I need no special day to remember you or the others that have gone before or after. Though today I do something differently I will have a two minute silence to show my recpect to all. Love you loads sweets, rest well.

2 years are on Sunday and it only feels like it was a couple of weeks ago you passed away, it still feels like you will be walking round that corner as if nothing has happened. You are one in a million John and I miss you so much, and i'm not the only one that does, you hav left a lot of friends and family behind that still care for you dearly. You are always on my mind and always will be. We will all be celebrating your life just like you would want and I'm sure you will be doing the same where ever you are.
Miss you, Emma xxxxxxxx

We think about you always,
we talk about you still,
you have never been forgotten,
and you never will.
We hold you close within our hearts,
and there you will remain,
to walk with us throughout our lives
until we meet again.

To love is to never forget,
To never forget is to have memories,
To have memories makes us smile,
To smile is to feel happiness,
To feel happiness is to think of our loved ones,
And never forget.

Distance takes us far apart, and darkens my today, I have to keep remembering, you’re just a thought away. although you’re not beside me, I can tap into my heart, and draw upon the love, that lives when we’re apart
